Betty Rose

Betty Rose, age 87 of Roseville, MN died on May 13, 2023.
Betty was raised on the Brown family ranch in Buffalo, South Dakota. She lost her hearing at a young age so she attended the South Dakota School for the Deaf in Sioux Falls, SD. She was a very determined and independent young woman. In 1965 she moved with Larry and Lily to Minneapolis where she worked as a keypunch operator (data entry) for many years, ending her career with the National Guard. Betty loved spending time with family and friends. Betty and her family watched captioned movies at friends’ houses long before there were captions on TV. Socializing at the Charles Thompson Memorial Hall (the Deaf Club) was another favorite activity she enjoyed. She also made yearly trips to South Dakota to visit family and friends. She was also very involved in her Church, enjoyed singing in the choir, wrote newsletters for several organizations and served as a secretary. After retiring she volunteered with hospice and loved to visit shut-ins at their home or in care centers. Her great grandchildren brought her much joy in her last few years.
Betty was preceded in death by parents, John and Esther Brown; brothers, Lawrence (Helen) and Maurice. She is survived by children, Lily (Bill) and Larry; grandson, Brian (Deena); great-grandchildren, Naomi and Sam; sister, Lenora (Norman) Iverson; sister-in-law, June Brown. Betty is also survived by Lisa, Lori and their families.
She will be deeply missed by her friends and family including many nieces, nephews and their families. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the South Dakota School for the Deaf or the Charles Thompson Memorial Hall Elevator Fund.
Funeral services were held. Interment Roselawn Cemetery, Roseville, MN.
