Fay May Coffield

Fay Coffield, of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength that touched all who knew her.She was born on January 2, 1939, to Walter and Elva (Giannonatti) Welch. She was a lifelong resident of Harding County, South Dakota.
Fay married Dean Lyons and lived on a ranch outside Buffalo, SD. After leaving the ranch, Dean passed away. She worked hard to help raise her family as a waitress and by helping at the medical clinic in Buffalo for several years. She married Patrick Coffield and worked as a school administrator for the Buffalo school district and then as secretary/treasurer and owner of Coffield Motors Auto Parts and dealership, and then for Standard Oil Company. After retiring and selling the business, she moved to Spearfish, SD. After the death of her husband Patrick Coffield, she moved to Castle Rock, CO, to spend time with her son Terry Lyons.
Fay was a devoted family member and steadfast friend. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and cared for, whether through a thoughtful conversation, a shared meal, or simply her presence. Her generosity of spirit and genuine compassion created lasting bonds that will not be forgotten.
Fay carried herself with grace and resilience, facing life's challenges with dignity and an unwavering sense of love for those around her.
Fay is survived by her children, Justin Lyons, Janice Koski, Tina Lyons, and Terry Lyons.
Her grandchildren are Rob Lyons, Shawn Lyons, Angie Atkinson, Michele Hazeldine, Colby Lyons, Shalane Juarez, Tera Chambers, Chelsea Medina, Trevor Lyons, and Shane Lyons.
Her great–grandchildren are Kahlia Lyons, Huxley Lyons, Charlotte Lyons, Conor Lyons, Colin Atkinson, Quinn Atkinson, Preston Atkinson, Ethan Atkinson, Lillian Miles, Jaydon Miles, Dylan Hazeldine, Chloe Lyons, Jillian Lyons, Jacoby Lyons, Jameson Juarez, Jade Juarez, Lincoln Chambers, Phoenix Lyons, Vincent Medina, and Romeo Medina.
She had many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as family and friends, who will continue to honor her memory through the values she lived every day: kindness, patience, and love.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Margy Davis and Kay Limpert–Scherr; brother Gary Welch; husbands Dean Lyons and Patrick Coffield; and son Roger Coffield.
Graveside family services will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish, SD, on May 16th at 10:00 A.M., with an open celebration of life luncheon in the Holiday Inn at 11:00.
The family encourages acts of kindness in her memory, reflecting the way she lived her life.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
