Lanny Joe was born in Bowman, ND to Dale (Jip) and Phyllis (Koziol) Anderson on March 25th,1954. He was the first born of five children. He attended one year of grade school in Gascoyne, ND and then moved to Scranton for the remainder of his education until 1972 when he graduated from Scranton High School.
Lanny began working on the Koziol Farm, south of Scranton in rural Harding County, SD, early during his childhood and following high school graduation he permanently moved to the farm to pursue his dream of living and working on the farm. His life on the farm consisted of raising Hereford cattle and producing wheat, oats and corn for silage. He proudly worked there many years alongside his grandfather Emil Koziol and uncle Paul Koziol until 1998 when Paul retired and the farm was leased to Lanny's brother Keith, allowing him to continue residing on the homestead. Lanny was able to continue his love for farming by working for his neighbors and close friends, the Krinke family, during the spring and harvest seasons until his complete retirement following the 2023 spring planting. In 2005, he then began working part-time for AMVC Veterinary Services at the pig barn south of Gascoyne which he continued until 2022 following his partial retirement.
In 1975, Lanny met and married Janis Taylor of Baker, MT. To this marriage 6 children were born Justin & Jason (twins), Joshua, Jordan, and JaNae & JaNel (twins). Family was first and foremost in Lanny's life. His time off the farm was spent traveling to any and all school activities for the kids, summers at the lake with family and many friends, woodworking (including building cribs and rocking horses for his kids and nieces and nephews), and his favorite hobbies: collecting toy tractors, cheering for the Packers, horseshoes, bowling, and hunting. Many great lifelong friendships were formed from his time in local bowling leagues and horseshoe tournaments. Hunting was his true passion and a great deal of family time was spent on this endeavor. Recently he took up Lego building and was very proud of his collection.
Loved ones left on Earth include his wife Janis; his 6 children and 13 grandchildren- Justin (Hailey & Ryder) of Scranton, ND; Jason & Devin (Chloe & Jaxon) of Scranton, ND; Josh & Jill (Hunter & Cate) of Lemmon, SD; Jordan & Amber (Trinity, Avaya, Ella, Jack & Asher) of Rhame, ND; JaNae & Matt (Bentley & Londynn) of Omaha, NE; JaNel & Shy of Scranton, ND, 2 brothers - Keith (Ann) Anderson of Scranton, ND, Kevin (Michelle) Anderson of Scranton, ND; 2 sisters - Bettyna (Merle) Johnson of Scranton, ND, Suzette (Ron) Braaten of Ludlow, SD; and multiple nieces and nephews.
