Linda Kay Humbracht
Linda Kay Humbracht was born September 15, 1953, to Floyd and Helen (Johnson) Norton. She joined sister Karen. She was raised in Buffalo and attended all grades at Buffalo School. In high school, Linda and John Humbracht became high school sweethearts. Linda graduated in May 1971 as the Valedictorian of her class.
Linda and John were married August 6, 1971, at the Grand River Lutheran Church in Buffalo where Linda was a confirmed member. They lived in the Buffalo area for the first few years of their marriage. Their son Jeremy John was born February 23, 1972. In the summer of 1972, Linda and John moved to the Humbracht ranch where John was raised, and this became their forever home. They welcomed their daughter Lori Lyn on February 2, 1974. This completed their happy family.
Linda helped on the ranch, raking hay, feeding livestock and working in the lambing shed. Linda raised out many bum lambs on the ranch. Linda also raised chickens and sold eggs to the neighbors. Linda had a garden every summer and canned the harvest for the winter. When the kids went to school in Camp Crook, Linda carpooled with Rolphs to get kids to school. She also drove for various field trips.
When Jeremy graduated from eighth grade, Linda and John decided to buy a trailer house in Buffalo where she and the kids stayed during the week. Linda waited tables at the Russell House and the Clarkson Steakhouse. Linda also night lambed for various neighbors. After Lori graduated, Linda started working for Yvonne Yoder at the Director of Equalization Office and later at the Harding County Abstract Office.
Linda’s family expanded in 1999 when Lori married Brian Teller. They had Jacie Lyn in 2000 and Kylie Layne in 2002. Her family grew again when Jeremy and Robin got married in 2008. With this marriage, Linda gained two granddaughters, Shania and Kendra. Linda was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her granddaughters.
Linda was a proud Norwegian. She learned how to make lefse at a young age from her grandmother and Aunt Adelyn. She continued this tradition by teaching Jeremy and Lori how to make lefse. Later she taught many people how to make lefse, including the Little Missouri Lutheran Church family. To many, she was the lefse making queen.
Linda was a great hostess to all. She always fixed a good meal for shearing and branding crews. If you left hungry, it was your own fault.
Linda enjoyed from an early age putting jigsaw puzzles together. She continued this for the rest of her life. She also liked to play card and board games.
