


Raymond Shinabarger
Raymond Shinabarger, age 96 of Buffalo, SD, died Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Spearfish Canyon Healthcare Center.
Services will be held 12:30 pm Friday, March 13, 2026, at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis with military honors. Arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Friends may leave written condolences online at: www.LeveringtonFH.com
Raymond Warren Shinabarger was born September 21, 1929, in Swanville, Minnesota. He was the son of Warren and Lena (Schwandt) Shinabarger. In July of 1952, Raymond was drafted into the U.S. Army during the middle of the Korean War, and the escalation of the Cold War. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Driver with Truck Medal, Safe Driver Certificate, and his unit received the Presidential Unit Citation. He was part of the 172nd Chemical Company. Raymond was united in marriage to Diana Lee Derby in Deadwood, December 18, 1963. To this union three children were born: Charlotte, Patsy and Warren. Following their marriage, Raymond and Diana lived in Buffalo. Together they were blessed with 61 years of marriage, until Diana passed in August of 2025. Raymond worked several years for the SD Highway Department. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion and in 2024 he reached a milestone having served in the Legion for 70 years. He was known for his dedicated service to the Buffalo Community and was a huge supporter of the Rancher students for many years.
Raymond is survived by his daughter, Patsy (Raymond) Dillard of Castroville TX; son, Warren (Amy Seales) of Rapid City; 9 grandchildren, Ronald, Jonathan, Aleisha, Brent, Brian, Lakrisha, Brittney, Raymond, Warren; 17 great grandchildren, Colton, Conner, Landon, Cade, Addasyn, Peyton, Hubert, Zach, James, Ryker, Winter, Kyzer, Kynzlee, Tay’lee, Tayten, Theo, and Niah. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diana; daughter, Charlotte Ottmo; two brothers, Donald and Clarence “Buster” Shinabarger; two sisters, Eleanor Lindholm and Gladys Baird Nelson.
