Wilma J. (Brengle) Negaard

Wilma J. (Brengle) Negaard, 106, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Monument Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Wilma was born, March 8, 1919, in Buffalo, SD to William O. and Maude (Patterson) Brengle. She was raised for a while on a ranch south of Buffalo, then the family moved into ‘town’. She went to school in Buffalo and graduated from Buffalo High School.
Wilma married her first husband, Arthur B. Flagg, in 1936 (1918-1940). They had two sons, Dana G. and William B. (Brad). Wilma attended beauty school in Sioux Falls, SD. She moved back to Rapid City to start her 50-year career as a ‘beauty operator.’ Eventually she owned and operated her own shop, ‘The Park and Primp.’ At the start of her career, Wilma married her second husband, Agner J. Negaard (1916-2012), in June of 1946. They were married for 65 years and had one daughter, Tena Rae.
Wilma and Agner were charter members of Calvary Lutheran Church and later moved to the Hill City area, where they were members of Community Lutheran Church. Wilma was a member of the Hill City Garden Club and Hill City Senior Center. She loved gardening and painting (ceramics, china, and acrylics). Camping was an activity that Wilma enjoyed with her family and going fishing with Agner. Another passion was jigsaw puzzles and she did them every day until the day she died. Family was foremost for Wilma and she took care of everyone. She also raised some of her grandchildren and had a hand in the upbringing of most of the family.
Wilma is survived by her daughter, Tena R. Heck (Chuck) of Rapid City, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands; her two sons; her parents; three brothers, Myron, Maurice and Buck; as well as four sisters, Violet, Coty, Dorothy and Faye.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Lutheran Church of Hill City. A celebration of life service will be held, April 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at her residence, Echo Glen Apartments, at 4243 Wisconsin Ave.
